Options for Authenticating File Recipients

SendSafely offers multiple ways to authenticate your file recipients:

Email Verification

This is the default option for authenticating recipients that you send files to.  When a recipient clicks on the SendSafely secure link to receive files, we confirm their identity by sending a unique email verification code to their inbox. They will only be allowed to access the files if they provide the correct verification code.

Recipients that have a Google account can use the “Login with Google” option to verify their email address instead of receiving an email pin code. The Login with Google option is automatically shown to them when accessing files (along with the option to use a pin code instead). 

SMS Verification

This option requires you to provide the mobile phone number for your recipients.  When the recipient clicks on the SendSafely secure link to receive files, we confirm their identity by sending a unique SMS verification code to their cell phone. They will only be allowed to access the files if they provide the correct verification code.  

Password Protected Links (Undisclosed Recipients)

Use this option for cases where you don’t want us to know who you are sending files to, or for cases where you send files to multiple people and don’t need to keep track of who is accessing the file.  When you choose this option, the link you send can be used by anyone to access the files.  You have the option to protect the link with a password of your choosing, which you then need to provide to your recipients in order to access the files.  

Advanced Authentication Options

NOTE: The following options are only available to SendSafely for Businesses customers.

Email Verification with SMS 2FA  

SendSafely for Businesses customers can elect to have their portal enforce email verification even when SMS verification is enabled. This option replaces the SMS Verification option described above on all file transfers where a mobile phone number is provided and provides true two-factor authentication for recipients. 

When the recipient clicks on the SendSafely secure link to receive files, we confirm their identity by sending a unique email verification code to their inbox, followed by a unique SMS verification code to their cell phone.  They will only be allowed to access the files if they provide both the correct email and SMS verification codes. Mandatory Google Login for Unregistered Employees

SendSafely customers who use Google Workspace have the option to require employees that have not registered a SendSafely account to verify their identity using the “Login with Google'' option before accessing files. This option replaces the email pin code verification normally used for unregistered users when the employee email address matches a domain that is registered with your SendSafely for Business portal.

This feature ensures that unregistered users who belong to your organization are subject to corporate password and/or 2FA requirements enforced through Google without requiring registration or a SendSafely license. Note that if a sender has opted to protect a secure transfer with SMS authentication, the employee guest will continue to be authenticated via SMS instead of Google.
